Qualified Diesel Mechanic
From a young age, Darren has been passionate about mechanics. After completing his schooling, he pursued a pre-trade course at Weltec, where he gained valuable hands-on experience at Cable Price Ltd. This solid foundation led him to secure apprenticeships at both Cable Price and Central Forklifts in Lower Hutt, where he honed his skills on a diverse range of vehicles and machinery.
Darren earned a National Certificate in Automotive Heavy Engineering, which opened doors to various roles, Having worked both in the mechanical being leading hand and then workshop foreman, before moving on to self employment before taking a Job as a Fleet Manager for a building company, running the working and making sure the fleet was kept running,
Darren primarily focused on operating and maintaining construction equipment and trucks. His extensive experience has provided him with a comprehensive understanding of the industry, allowing him to tackle a wide array of mechanical challenges with confidence and expertise.
Darren is an enthusiastic supporter of Speedway. He finds great joy in mentoring younger drivers, sharing his knowledge about car setup, maintenance, and repairs to help them grow in their racing journey, He has sponsored a few local Cars in both the ministocks and the Stockcar Class, Darren has this year been engineering support to the Wellington Wildcats Superstock team and The Wellington Young Guns Stockcar Team, Currently he is in his first year as a SNZ scrutineer doing his bit to give back to the club.
